About The High Noon Choir

The High Noon Choir was started by Siobhan Robinsong (founder of the Gettin’ Higher Choir) as a place for singers who are looking for a daytime outlet for their voices. The High Noon Choir invites all who like to sing in harmony to join us on Tuesdays from high noon (12:00pm) to 1:15pm Pacific Time for lively and joyous sessions of song.

Our repertoire is eclectic, including (but not limited to) world music, spirituals, African freedom songs, various rounds and chants, as well as some contemporary music. No previous singing experience is necessary. You do not need to know how to read music, as most of our songs are learned in the oral tradition.

During this time of required physical distancing due to COVID-19, High Noon Choir has moved to the Zoom platform, with sessions led by Dick Jackson and Siobhan Robinsong. All are welcome! Click here to Register for the weekly Tuesday High Noon Choir sessions, 12:00–1:15pm Pacific Time! You will receive an email with instructions on connecting to the event, and an update with an updated link and password each Tuesday morning.

Registration is free, and if you enjoy our singing together and are able to donate to the Virtual Tip Jar, your kindness is gratefully received. Our Donate button is HERE. Thank you.

The High Noon Choir Directors

Siobhan Robinsong

Growing up as a non-prodigy in an intensely musical family, Siobhan often felt she must be the “unmusical one.” Now she is a celebrated choir director with a joyful and inclusive approach to music. Siobhan’s background is in psychology and adult education, and she co-founded Hollyhock, Canada’s leading holistic learning centre. At Hollyhock, she trained with Susan Osborn, David Darling, Frankie Armstrong, Ann Mortifee, Ysaye Barnwell, Rhiannon, Chloe Goodchild, and Russill Paul — who all emphasized that singing is for everyone. In 1994, she started the Cortes Island Community Choir. Two years later, she moved to Victoria and founded the non-auditioned Gettin’ Higher Choir, which has steadily grown to at times over 300 people across its three weekly groups. Siobhan has passed the GHC banner to Cathy and Dick, and continues to lead the High Noon Choir.

Dick Jackson

Dick has been involved in musical groups nearly all his adult life, and has learned from the many excellent leaders of choirs, bands and opera chorus groups he has been in. He has led small musical combos over the years and has been Music Director of the Capital Unitarian Universalist Congregation since 2009. Since completing the Community Choir Leadership Training program in 2017, he has been co-directing the GHC, and accompanying the choir with percussion and piano. Under Denis’ mentorship, Dick has begun to explore arranging choral music.
