Join the Harmonic Flow

Our 2018 Spring season starts the week of February 19th
and ends with our June 15 & 16 end-of-season concerts.

The Gettin' Higher Choir is a Victoria, BC choir that was founded in 1996 by Siobhan Robinsong who has directed it since then with the help of co-director Denis Donnelly who joined her in 1998. For the choir's 2017 Fall and 2018 Spring seasons Siobhan will be taking a sabbatical. During that period Denis will focus on leading the choir's Monday chapter and the Tuesday/Thursday chapters will be led by Cathy Baker and Dick Jackson who both have strong singing and musical backgrounds and are graduates of Denis & Siobhan's Community Choir Leadership Trainings program. Denis, Dick & Cathy will co-ordinate their teaching of the choir's concert repertoire each season to keep all members in musical step with each other in preparation for singing in the end of season concerts in January and June.

The choir comes together primarily for the joy of singing in community and is not affilliated with any particular religion or spiritual path.  We do, however, seek to embrace and celebrate humanitys highest aspirations through music while welcoming people of all ages and cultures and singing songs from many eras and areas.

With a membership of 275 to 350 singers each season we split ourselves up into Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening chapters and practice from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.  As a member you will be free to pick whichever night suits your schedule best as your home night and you will be welcome to attend on other nights if you wish.

Would you prefer to sing in the daytime?
Meets on Tuesdays from noon to 1:30 pm
No audition! Join any time! All voices welcome!

We will have a half hour New Singer Orientations at 7:00 p.m. on each of the evenings listed below that will be followed by opportunities to sing with the current choir members from 7:30 - 9:30. Feel free to bring interested friends.

As much, or as little, experience as you have is ok with us. There is no audition, and no singing experience is required, just a desire to sing in harmony with others. In fact from session to session 60 -70% of our new members start with hesitations about their voice and/or their ability to use it. Our choir is based on the absolute belief that all voices can sing and our experience since 1996 tells us that any hesitations you may have will inevitably fade away as you relax into our very open and welcoming community of singers.

End Of Season Concerts

We end each season with a pair of benefit concerts that members can choose to sing in if they wish.   Usually about 2/3 of us do so.

Since Dec. 13, 1998 our concerts for our Fall season (at the end of Jan / beginning of Feb) are annual benefits for the Power of Hope. Since May 30, 1999 our concerts for our Spring season (in mid-June) are annual benefits for various projects in Mozambique under the auspices of the Caia Connection

All our concerts are held in the Alix Goolden Hall (907 Pandora).   For exact dates/times check our web site's Choir Life: Calendar  in the time frames  previously mentioned in brackets above.

We are a member supported choir.  Choir fees are $175 for the season with a sliding scale discount from there down to $130 for seniors, students and the un- or under-waged who need it. If you need a discounted fee we ask you to decide where on the sliding scale you fit based on your knowledge of your own finances while keeping in mind that payment plans are possible. Partial or full scholarships are also available. While we ask members needing discounts or other special arrangements to pay as close to the full fees as they can without stressing themselves financially our bottom line is always…no one misses choir because of money.

Possible Singer Notifications

If you would like an email reminder in advance of our new singers intake nights I can add you to our Possible Singers Notification List.  In the body of your email please enter: your First & Last Names, email address and phone number(s).  Including how you first heard about the choir would also be appreciated.

From this list you will only get 6 - 8 notifications per year (ie two sets of concerts, two new singers in-take periods, a summer drop-in reminder and possibly an one-off event or two).   To be removed from the Possible Singers Notification List at any time simply make the request by reply to any email from us.

If you have any remaining questions or concerns about singing with us feel free to contact me.

Sing, be and do in joy.
